The SHBC Torpids campaign was once again a mixed bag of success. Congratulations to M1 who successfully bumped their way up into Division II. Despite narrowly missing a bump on Keble on the first day due to a klaxon, M1 ploughed through day 2 of the campaign, out lasting Merton's 'fly and die' strategy to give them the opportunity to catch Keble again on Friday. On Friday M1 bumped up to sandwich boat, from which they managed to over-bump St Peter's after Univ bumped out in front of them, bringing them well and truly up into Div II. On the Saturday a similar feat was achieved with M1 over-bumping Exeter who started at the top of Div II on Wednesday. M2 have once again had a very successful term. Unfortunately luck was against them on the first day when, after being bumped by a very fast Regent's Park the division was klaxoned seconds before they caught Merton. The crew then bounced back, bumping on 2 of the next 3 days, placing M2 in its highest ever position and ahead of all college 3rd VIIIs for the first time. Although M3 did not qualify from Rowing On they demonstrated that they were a powerful crew, setting the fastest ever time during rowing on for a St Hugh's M3. This years campaign saw W1 caught on the wrong end of a chain bump, meaning that on Wednesday they dropped from 9th in Div II to 1st in Div III. On Thursday W1 were caught by Lincoln but on Friday they successfully held off Trinity for the third year in a row, despite Trinity having significant overlap for about 600m. On Saturday W1 gained quickly on St Hilda's, getting within a quarter of a length making them a target for next year's Torpids. Although W2 did not qualify they were the fastest St Hugh's W2 since 2006 and obtained a time that would put most second crews to shame. This year was extremely competitive in the Women's competition and W2 were 2 places (3 seconds) away from qualifying- so well done girls and thanks for all your hard work and dedication throughout the term of training!

The SHBC Summer Eights campaign 2012 was varied. The most notable success can be attributed to M1 who bumped on all 4 days, winning blades and moving higher up Div III. A special mention must also be given to our W1 crew, who put up a great fight to regain 2 places and move back into Div II. Congratulations to M2 and M3 for successfully rowing on and showing true Hugh's spirit throughout their campaigns.
