Friends of St Hugh's (FOSH)
Friends of St Hugh's is the alumni association for old members of SHBC. Alumni are an important part of the boat club and if you rowed in 1976 or 2006 we want to hear from you. In the recent year FOSH has become more active, organising several successful events including an Alumni drinks reception at the college and an Alumni outing. Alumni have also been valued supporters this year, forming a full Alumni table at both our Torpids Roast and Eights Dinner.
The Boat Club is an important aspect of college life and we would like to help preserve the fond memories you have of rowing through the development of our alumni group. Through a strong alumni presence within the boat club, this could provide the backing and morale required to return the boat club to its former glory.
If you would like any information on upcoming events, donating or would like to be added to our mailing list then please contact our Development Secretary, James Atkey at [email protected]. An online copy of our donation form can be found here.

History
SHBC is a boat club with a short, but exciting history. Rowing at St Hugh's began in 1891, when St Hugh's first obtained a boat and despite the club disbanding in 1955 it re-emerged in 1973. St Hugh's Women began rowing in Summer VIIIs in 1976, rising quickly to attain the headship in 1979. This high standard was maintained throughout the Eighties, with W1 at the head of the river in 1982, 1983 and 1984. The club also achieved the remarkable feat of W1 and W2 placed second and third respectively on the river at the end of the 1986 competition. The results in Torpids demonstrate similar success, with W1 taking the headship once in 1986.
In October of 1986 St Hugh's admitted its first men, who began competing in Summer Eights in 1988 and Torpids in 1989. An outstanding rise saw M1 rise to the top of Div III by the end of 1993, although unfortunately this was coupled with the collapse of W1 into Div III in the early Nineties (Div IV in 2002), perhaps reflecting a shift within the college itself.
More recently after a series of rises and falls M1 find themselves mid-Div III in Summer Eights, faring better in Torpids where they are currently holding sat at the top of Div III. The women's boat club are beginning to show the makings of a come back of sorts with a very successful Summer VIIIs campaign in 2014, with both W1 and W2 climbing into divisions II and V respectively. W2 and W3 also achieved blades.
