Oxford City Royal Regatta and Sprint
To finish off our year of racing, we took on Oxford City Regatta in a variety of boats and categories, hoping to have lots of fun and maybe even score a couple of wins! Below can be found crew lists and race times for the weekend. Results will be posted here eventually and on our Facebook and Twitter pretty promptly.
Results
Day 1 saw few wins, sadly, though Ben Pair did manage to progress to the second round of IM1 2- due to the other crew getting disqualified, so that's sort of a result.
Day 2 was much more successful, with our IM3 4+ and NOV 1x both winning their first round races convincingly, getting the day off to a brilliant start. They both lost out in round 2 to stronger opponents, but the wins provided a much-needed confidence for the crews, who would be racing again later in the eight and pair. Our IM3 8+ put in a staggering performance against Jesus College Cambridge, who should be embarrassed to have nearly lost to a scratch crew of Hughsies. It was really close, a fantastic race with less than a quarter of a length in it at the finish line. Ben Pair pulled off a surprising win over Magdalen, when their opposition ploughed into the bank shortly before the finish line and left them to row home unchallenged. That stroke of luck placed them in the final, facing 'Wallingford/Army', who turned out to be just as scary in opposition as they sounded, running away with the win and leaving Ben Pair somewhat for dead. Nevertheless, for an uncoached IM3 standard crew to get so far is an achievement in itself.
A fun weekend was had by all, and valuable race experience was gained, which will hopefully stand us in good stead for future competitions, both on and off the Isis.
