Welcome to the official website of St Hugh's Boat Club!

SHBC is a boat club for members of St Hugh's College, Oxford, with 4-6 competing senior boats, all undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate courses at the University of Oxford. Almost all of our rowing is done in eights although sculling and fours increasingly popular, with all members able to enter into two bumps racing competitions per year, alongside smaller side-by-side and time trial races whenever the opportunity arrives. Given our continual success, SHBC is driving itself forward to expand and compete in nation wide regattas and further develop as a boat club.

Just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for making Torpids so fun this year! It’s been an incredible campaign for the SHBC swans - with a net gain of 7 places overall, and our second boats both making fixed divs we couldn’t be prouder of our crews. We cannot wait for bumps next term - 87 days till Eights!!! #bringonthesmashy #theswansarehungover #theswansarehappy #bleedblueandyellow □□

Rowing Glossary - If you're new to rowing this is a fantastic glossary of rowing terms. It covers pretty much everything you need to know or may be interested in as a novice, so if there's anything you're unsure of, take a look.

The Committee - A list of committee members can be found here. Do feel free to contact anyone with any questions you may have, they're here to help, after all.

Alumni - If you are an Alumnus take a look at our newsletters to get up to speed on what's been happening recently. There is also information on our alumni society (FOSH), as well as information on sponsorship.

Torpids 2018 -
Sadly this year heavy snow and poor conditions meant racing only took place on Wednesday for all divisions and Saturday for higher divisions.
W1 bumped Wadham II (with a stunning double overbump!) and rowed over
M1 bumped St Antony's and Linacre
W2 bumped Merton II
M2 suffered an unfortunate crash due to the steering wire breaking and fell to the bottom of the division.
M3 bumped M2 and was bumped by St Hilda's II.
W3 rowed on but narrowly missed qualifying.

15/01/2018: Matt Clark has been appointed as co-captain of the men's side. Last term Ro Green was appointed co-captain of the women's side. Congratulations to both!

07/06/2017: Congratulations to the new boat club president, Nathan Peters! Last term we also elected new captains: Alex Wilson and Sheng Ho for the men, and Naomi Hirst and Kate Potter for the women.

25/04/2016 Congratulations to the new boat club president, Angus Graham! Last term we also elected new captains: Sam Johansen and Harry Thomas for the men, and Mia Donn and Stephanie Gover for the women.

M3 rowed on with a time of 03:44.0, unfortunately not securing a place in the rowing on division.

11/04/2015 A brilliant performance from all the Oxford crews racing on the tideway. I think they call that a clean sweep! Congratulations to the victorious crews

07/03/2015 What a superb evening at Torpids Roast. Hosted this year at the Department of Continuing Education, SHBC enjoyed a delicious meal followed by the traditional bop back in college. Thank you to Jamie Gardiner (social sec) for organising it

07/03/2015 The results ARE IN!:
M1 - after bravely striking out with an all novice crew, M1 sadly come away with spoons but will be back next year with even greater resolve
M2 - row over on their final day and now are in 8th position in Men's Div 5
W1 - have not budged an inch! They remain 5th in Women's Div 3
